To use sports and recreation as a tool to create and build relationships for Christ’s kingdom.

Purpose of Recreation:

The Sport & Recreation Ministry at Greeley First Church creates opportunities for the body of believers to actively participate in fellowship and outreach through sports. These possibilities are endless through this avenue of service. Using sports and recreation as a tool creates and builds relationship for Kingdom building.

Our culture is strongly influenced through sports. Families seek safe options for children and adults to participate in recreational activities. The church has the potential to meet those needs and desires by providing/hosting leagues, tournaments, putting teams together to participate in other leagues, classes, etc. Sports create an atmosphere of team work, and competition. Through the church there are the opportunities to share Christ through this atmosphere.

The purpose of Sports and Recreation here at Greeley First Church is:

to create opportunities for the community of believers to get together in fellowship

to outreach to its community by sharing the Love of Jesus Christ with others.

to provide opportunities for healthy competition

to teach team work and corporation

Goals:

1. Outreach to the lost through showing Christ’s love and point them to Him for salvation.
2. To provide an arena for discipleship and an opportunity to empower members of Greeley First church for service. To help those involved to be effective in touching the lives of those they come in contact with through recreation.
3. Create a non-threatening environment as an entry to the body of Christ.
4. Teach Christian values through sports.
5. Provides an opportunity for fellowship, and supportive Christ-centered relationships.
6. To give a full effort in all that we do, by providing top-quality events and programs that are God honoring.

Implementation of Vision, Purpose, Goals:

1. Continue one night of an open gym

With the implementation of a gym manager we will be better hosts and more intentional about doing ministry with sports. 

1. Co-ed Volleyball (with nursery)

We look to provide an opportunity to fellowship with moms & dads, college age, young-old adults, etc.

1. Dodgeball League

All leagues are an opportunity for friends to be brought and invited to participate in sport and share in fellowship and healthy competition.

1. Teen/Men’s Basketball League & Tournaments (3v3, 4v4, 5v5 leagues/tournaments)

Outreach to many of the men that attend our open gyms and share the Gospel of Christ through the relationships that have been established through the open gyms and leagues.

1. Upward Sports (Basketball, Cheerleading, Flag Football)

With the League Director’s help, the implementation of Upward sports provides the church an opportunity to host a top notch league and reach out to the WHOLE family. Upward is shifting more of its focus to the idea that Loving people is what it is about, and that is exactly what it strives to provide. 

1. Taekwondo & Self-defense classes

These classes will teach discipline and respect for one’s self and others. Through the church environment it will be done through the Gospel of Christ.

1. Classes (Aerobics, Zumba, Nutrition, etc)

We have the opportunity to provide a safe place for families to find education for physical health as well as spiritual. Classes like these are what many people in our community are interested in participating in. With the proper advertisement we can host and lead some seasonal/weekly classes that will provide great opportunities to create and build relationships within and out of our local community.
